What makes EPAX® different

Epax has worked with marine oils in Norway since 1838 and developed the processes behind today's omega-3 concentrates: concentration as ethyl esters in 1987 and re-esterification back to triglycerides in 1994. Every EPAX® grade is made in Ålesund, on the Norwegian west coast, under the same pharma-compliant quality systems as Epax's pharmaceutical range, and Epax has never had a product recall.

Protected from catch to capsule

Omega-3 oils oxidise easily, and oxidation is what makes a fish oil taste and smell stale. Epax protects the oil at every step: an oxygen-free, temperature-controlled chain from start to finish, purification without solvents or excessive heat, and natural antioxidants added to every batch.

The proof is in Epax's own specification limits. They sit well below both EU legislation and the GOED Monograph, and the oxidation limits hold for the full three-year shelf life. For mercury, Epax's limit is a hundredth of the EU maximum.

Responsible sourcing

The raw material is wild-caught fish, mainly from Peru, and Epax traces it from source to finished ingredient. Sourcing is spread to other regions to ease the pressure on the Peruvian fishery, all crude fish oil Epax buys needs third-party sustainability verification, and production runs entirely on renewable hydropower.

An EPAX® number is a name, not a specification

The digits in an EPAX® name often follow the EPA and DHA content, but not always. The letters give the form. Always read the minimum values.

Questions about EPAX®

What is Silvaco's role for Epax?
Silvaco is Epax's Nordic partner. We quote and supply EPAX® omega-3 concentrates as bulk oil and in softgels made with EPAX® oil, and handle specifications and documents with you directly.
What is the difference between TGN and EE?
EE is the ethyl ester form in which fish oil is concentrated by distillation. TGN is the concentrate converted back into triglycerides (TG), the form fatty acids take in fish: Epax specifies at least 90 % triglycerides and at most 3 % ethyl esters, deodorised for a neutral taste and smell.
What do the numbers in an EPAX® grade name mean?
Often the EPA and DHA content: EPAX® 4020 specifies min. 400 mg/g EPA and 200 mg/g DHA. Not always: EPAX® 6000 specifies 300 and 200, and EPAX® 1500 TGN 105 and 500. Read the minimum values, not the name.
What is the difference between EPAX® 4020 and EPAX® 1500?
EPAX® 4020 is EPA-led: min. 400 mg/g EPA and 200 mg/g DHA. EPAX® 1500 is DHA-led: min. 500 mg/g DHA and 105 mg/g EPA in TGN (100 in EE). Both come as TGN and EE.
Which documents come with EPAX® oil?
We send the specification before you order. Every lot comes with its certificate of analysis, which we check against the specification. Other documents are available on request, as issued by Epax. Epax has announced that it is adding MOAH to its specifications and certificates of analysis ahead of new EU limits for fish oils.
